The delicious taste of fried turkey is making propane turkey fryers more popular. These fryers pose a serious danger. National fire protection association is one of the largest associations that strongly discourages the use of propane turkey fryers because of the serious accidental hazards they can cause. The New York fire department, among others, has also disapproved of the use of this type of fryer cooker.
A high level of dangers associated with propane fryers has also been identified by the consumer product Safety Commission. The safety commission submitted a report highlighting over 100 incidents that relate to propane fryer hazards. This video on their website shows the dangers of turkey fryers exploding so quickly and so violently.
The propane turkey fryer does not have a temperature control so they are dangerous. Turkey heaters with temperature controls have control systems that are not reliable and often shoddy. This creates a sense of insecurity among consumers. Keep in mind that the propane turkey fryer was designed for outdoor use. Also, be aware that the propane turkey fryer can become steamed quickly if it is exposed to snow or rain. The steam is then converted into steam which can lead to severe burns. Also, a partially frozen propane turkey fryer can pose serious threats. Unstable three-leg bases are also a major concern.
